"One need not be a chamber to be haunted. One need not be a house. The mind has corridors surpassing material place. ~Emily Dickinson
IN THE FOREST
mourning becomes night.
Synopsis: After the sudden death of their reclusive father, Aria and her sister Ava venture deep into the woods to his home, in order to clear it out. As the two begin to clean out the cabin, they both begin to feel a presence... The lines of reality are blurred, as the sisters lose themselves in the world of the play, the depth of the forest, and in the hands of their ghost.
Director’s Note: Something I decided early on is that there will be no jump-scares. Those feel cheap. Adding a loud noise can make anything startling. But to make something truly haunting, lasting, and beautiful, it has to come from the core of the film. There's something so cathartic and beautiful about the framework of horror - it allows us to look within, face fears, and in my favorite horror films, trojan horse a higher concept into an accessible package.
